Striped Bass

Striped Bass - Nov. 13, 2016

On Sunday we had a few friends out for a day of fishing. What a difference a day makes! We started in Asbury, reading bait besides the jig, and we landed a couple of blue fish. We observed fish breaking on top of the water, so we broke out the trolling rods and landed 7 bass along with several blue fish in the next hour. We limited out on our unders, so we decided to try live-lining on the beach, unfortunately without results. It was a day of epic fishing off Asbury!!

Striped Bass

Striped Bass - Nov. 12, 2016

On Saturday we had Gary and the boys out from South Plainfield or a day of striped bass fishing. We left the docks at 6am and made a left out of the inlet. We had good reports that the fish were off Asbury. We observed several boats tied to the beach live-lining. We started to troll, and hooked up within 45 minutes. We worked the area for several hours more, without results. So we picked up our lines and ran north to the rocks. We trolled for several hours, but got no bites. We pulled in the lines, ran back to Asbury, were we had the best bait readings of the day. We were able to land another bass before calling it a day. So, we returned to the dock at 2:30pm.

Sunday we had the boys from South Plainfield. We left the dock at 0600 hours, making a left out of the Inlet and got the call that fish where south of Manasquan. When we got there, the bunkers were breaking on top, so we snagged several and started to live line. We had one run off. Some boats caught them and some didn't (that was us). We left that pod and headed south to found another pod with the same results. The wind picked up and started to gust about 20mph. The drift became too fast so we broke out the trolling rods and caught monster blues but no Bass. Rough day on the grounds.

Tuna/Mahi Mahi

Fluke / Tuna/Mahi Mahi - Sept. 17, 2016

Today we sailed with Dave Titus and Friends hoping to find some inshore Tuna. We left the dock around 4:30am to calm seas and a clear, moon lit night. We steamed east until first light and set up our trolling spread for some Tuna. We trolled around some lobster pots near the Glory Hole and continued to head east. We had some luck in the Chicken Canyon hooking up and boating a small Yellowfin and a false Albie. The bite was slow so we decided to hit the Lobster Pots and some floating debris for Mahi Mahi. We boated 25 Mahi for the table and started our trip back to the barn. It was a beautiful day on the water and the guys did a great job landing multiple hook ups throughout the day.

Once the weather cleared we headed to the muscle beds where we picked at Ling, Sea Bass and Fluke fighting a strong southerly wind. Drift and tide became too fast so we moved inshore. The guys switched to lighter tackle and caught several nice, large Fluke in the 24 inch range along with some large Sea Bass to 5lbs. Great to have Lee and the guys out for a day on the water. Look forward to fishing with them again.

Offshore - July 24, 2016

We headed out early this morning in search of Tuna with Ed Pecora and family. We left the dock at 3:30am, the flat seas gave us a calm ride out. We put in our lines working our way towards the Chicken Canyon, water and temp weren’t the best. Reports of better water sent us to the Bacardi, the sonar was reading Skip Jacks and bait. We had only one knockdown on the purple spreader bar that didn’t come tight. Worked the area until we had to turn for home. Thanks to Ed and his family for working hard all day.

Shark Trip - June 12, 2016

Sunday we had the Ed Dougherty party aboard for a day of Shark fishing. We left the dock early to beat the high winds that was forecasted for today. We ran to the North East and had such good readings so we put it on the drift. We hooked up our first shark with in two hours but it was a Blue Dog. We had sharks under the boat and in our slick, but no takers. The highlight of the day was when we had a thresher shark jump out of the slick crashing the bait. But no bites. We gave more time, but same results. So we picked up and ran South, put the lines out and were able to land another Blue shark. He was 7 footer and about 180lbs. We called it a day and headed for the dock. It was a rough day on the water the waves were short and deep.

Striper

Striped Bass Trip - June 10, 2016

Friday we had Peter Shaw party aboard for a day of striped Bass fishing. We left the dock at 0500 hrs. Pete expressed he wanted to live line in the morning and maybe troll later in the day. So we had good bait readings in the morning. We snagged our bunker and started to live line. After four hours with just one run off we switched gears and started trolling. Ten minutes into trolling we landed our first keeper of the day. Got a phone call that the rocks were about to exploded. So we picked up our lines and steamed to the rocks. We landed 6 fish in forty minutes. The biggest was 46" and 43lbs. The rest was a little bit smaller. We were rocking at the rocks.

Striper

Striped Bass Trip - June 5, 2016

Yesterday we had the Dave Titus party board for a day of stripper fishing. We left the dock at 0500hrs, to beat the predicted bad weather forecasted for the day. We had a report of bait right outside the inlet, so we put the trolling poles out and searched for the bait. We had great readings, but no bites. I observed boats to the north, so we picked up and I advised our mate Ron that we were going to live line. We got into the area, snagged some bunkers, and managed two beauties - 44" and 43." The fish seemed to then get lock jaw, so we moved further north with negative results. Dave and the boys had a great day overall. Thank God the weather was not as bad as predicted.

Striper

Striped Bass Trip - May 31, 2016

Today we had the Ed Waterson party out for a day of stripe bass fishing. We left the dock at 0600 hrs. We made a left out of the Inlet heading North in heavy fog as thick as pea soup. We got to the grounds, and had good readings, so we put the trolling sticks out and went to work. After 20 minutes, we hooked up with our first Bass. We continued to plow the area and was able to get another Bass within the hour. The tide went slack and shut off the bite, and we didn't get anything further. So, we worked our way back to the inlet, and it was still foggy. We ended the day with two Bass, and the guys were pretty happy. They fished hard but the Bass had lock jaw and wouldn't bite.

On Friday, we had the Dan LaBarbera party from Staten Island out for a day of bottom fishing. We left the dock at 0500 hours wanting to go deep first. First drop produced Cod, Pollock and Ling. We worked the area for a couple of drops. We decided to head to more shallow water and target the tasty Black Sea Bass. Fishing started out hot and heavy but slowed due to the strong South wind. But we still managed to catch several nice Sea Bass. We had a great day fishing with the boys from Staten Island.

Today we had Denis Osnato aboard for a day of Striper fishing. We left the dock at 0600 hours, cleared the inlet and turned right heading South. We had some good reports about big fish being caught. We put the lines in short of the reported area. The sea condition were pretty shitty. We put the rods out and started to work the area with two other boats. We went 1 for 5 in the morning but the one we caught was 42in and weight 36lbs. Stayed in the area for another hour or two and then started to work our way North.
